Join Us on a Path to Greener Drainage Systems!
This planter is a raingarden planter. A rain garden planter takes water that would have gone down the drain and uses it locally.
We have diverted the downpipe from the building in to the planter. The water will water the plants in the planter first.

All excess water will then be used to water the plants in the ground beside the planter slowly using a seep hose.
Throughout this area we have chosen plants that are great for pollinators, give good ground cover and are ever green as they take up more water in winter.

We would also like to highlight the importance of using eco products in the home as water down the drain can affect aquatic life near you.

A Rain Garden is a garden where water from surrounding hard surfaces is absorbed to slow its movement towards the waterway and help prevent flooding. This one is unique as we have implemented a rain garden and rain garden planter side by side to make best use of the site.

The planting has many ever green plants to absorb more water in winter. Dense planting is used to encourage wildlife and reduce maintenance. By planting the plants close together we improve the are for wildlife, increase the water the area can absorb and have more pollinator plants for biodiversity. We hope this easy rain garden inspires you to plant more plants in your garden for every season and provide for biodiversity. Check out pollinators.ie for more information on planting for biodiversity.

This rain garden was funded through the Community Climate Action Fund and we would like to thank Fingal County Council for their support and financing of the project. It is one of several measures implemented in Bayside Community Centre as part of this funding.
